Update (!)

Hello Everyone! It seems like forever since the last time I posted... I've got a few things to tell you:
  1. I went polish shopping on Wednesday and got (6) of the new OPI colors! (A Good Man-darin is Hard to Find, Pearl of Wisdom, Suzi Says Feng Shui, Jade is the New Black, Lucky Lucky Lavender, and Meet Me on the Star Ferry)
  2. I uploaded a new template for PHD. I hope you like it! There are still a few kinks I need to get resolved though. Is anyone familiar with code?
  3. My nail is almost long enough to continue posting. I said "almost"! It might be another week...
  4. And last, I'm saving for a DSLR. I CAN'T WAIT to own one! What does that mean for you? Better quality photos! Below is a Nikon D90... [I think my heart just skipped a beat]

  1. Your new layout is awesome! :)
The D90 is great, just make sure you get a proper macro lens to get close enough to your nails. :)

I am looking forward to your new posts. :)

  3. Nailinit- Thanks! Do you have one? I wonder if the 18-105mm lens will work... If not that means I'm going to need more money! I would like a lens for "normal" shooting and for photographing my nails!

Swatchaholic- Thank you! I'll be back soon :)

  4. I'd like a Nikon, but I went with a Pentax because I can use my Grandpa's macro and telephoto lenses from his old film SLR. It's nice to start out with a free set of lenses!

I'd recommend getting a Macro lense, but the 18-105mm should be fine to start off with.

  5. Yes, I have the D90. :)

The 18-55 mm works fine, but I broke my 18-55 lens and now I have a 18-200 lens, and I can't get stuff closer than 45-50 cm, and that's a bit hard for nail pics. ;)

I use a small Canon compact camera for my nail pics, that's easier for me. :)

  6. WizardsofBling- Yes, that would be awesome to have lenses handed down! I will probably just wait on getting the macro (Nikon calls them "micro") lens if I can get a lens in a kit that will work :)

Nailinit- Don't you just love it!? I've played around with my friend's D90. I prefer it over the Canon Rebel (not sure model #)! It was much more user friendly in my opinion. I also currently use a point-and-shoot Canon. Mine doesn't really photograph colors or light well. I can't get it to capture the sparkling of glitter!... I like the small size though. It is going to be hard to get used to holding a DSLR. Thanks for the help! :)

  7. See if you can find a "macro reverse adapter ring" online. It screws onto the outward facing end of your lens and lets you turn it around and use it as a macro. Here's a place that has them for sale, so you can see what I mean-

or do a search and other places will come up. Just make sure to keep the lens clean and/or clean it before you reverse it back! The ring works wonders, and is waaayyyy less expensive than a new lens. (I love the Nikon cameras-I've used them since the 1970's!)
Also, check out garage/tag sales, as their old lenses work on the new DSLR's.
    Photo on!

  8. Oh, also, for about 19 bucks, you can find a decent tiny tabletop tripod, so you don't have to hold the camera when you photograph you hands! Plus, make sure when you get your camera, that it has a good timer (so you can set up the shot and get both (!) hands), or that you get a remote shutter release. (electronic remote) Plus, with either of those, there's no risk of jiggling the camera...
    I'm so excited for you!

  9. You might want to get a tripod. I found that it was really heavy to hold the D90 one handed when I was using it for my nail pics. :)

I had problems capturing certain colors (*cough* purple *cough*) with my compact as well, but I just kept trying different settings and finally I found a setting that isn't half-bad. I think my pics are quite clear and color accurate right now. :)

Who would have thought that a silly little hobby like nail polish blogging was so technically advanced? ;)

  12. Love your pics - they are great. My hubby has the D90 and loves it. He has a ton of lighting equipment and everything. He has taken some pics for my blog, but I have to say I think I like my Canon Powershot better. Maybe because I feel like I have more control? I think I might have to try his on the tripod with the remote and see if I like that better. We'll have to compare notes. :)
