Okay so, many of you know I am hosting a challenge this week and the theme is "Color Accent". The deal is, you have to create a grayscale manicure and add a pop of color. I have everything except gray! Seriously! How does a polish hoarder have every polish under the sun but simple gray? I don't have an answer for that, but I have a solution! Mix your own!
The idea came to me right before I fell asleep last night... Since I was running low on "Alpine Snow" I picked myself up a backup the other day. That means I had 2 bottles of white. Well, it doesn't take much black to create a gray so I mixed some into my half empty bottle of white polish! It all worked out so well. It's like it was meant to be. The best part about my gray is the name! "Kickin' Ash!"
Ready for swatches of my one-of-a-kind (but super easy to dupe!) OPI gray?
Alright! Here ya go:
OPI Franken "Kickin' Ash"
Oh my gosh, it is perfect! This is just 2 coats. Can you believe it?!
No... that's not a real label. I Photoshop-ed that in there :)
Now, it's time to get started on my challenge entry!
Have you done yours???
I like it! I can't wait to see your challenge entry.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that is a Franken, that looks SO good! That's such a good idea, making my own gray...I don't own any, either! I'm seriously going to try that and see how it goes. And AMAZING name!
ReplyDeleteYep - didn't really have enough polish to franken sadly :( But looks awesome :D
ReplyDeleteUgh! This one has been giving me the BIGGEST fit! I'm still working on mine. But, like you, I don't have gray. Black and white and silver, but no gray. And the grays I found in the store just aren't right. Think I'm going to have to Franken some.
ReplyDeleteGreat color! I have a similar polish, only matte. It looks like cement., I love it! I love the idea of frankening but I've only done one so far. Guess I'm afraid I'll cause some chemical reaction.
ReplyDeleteZara- Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteAurora's Nails- Yah and it went on amazing too! It must be because I used a white OPI and a black OPI to make the gray... Glad you like the name. LOL I think it is hilarious!
Emybloom- Oh that's okay! You entries are still great!
Megan- You can franken a gray or just use your silver. I'm not picky! Just have fun with it! Don't stress :)
Blu11- Haha. I could see that happening if you were to mix different brands together! I used 2 OPIs so I was confident I would have no problem with the end result :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I has a subtle blue tint too.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE that grey!!! WANT what a beautiful franken!
ReplyDeleteOh and I have a giveaway on my blog, check it out :) http://polishondigitalpaper.blogspot.com/2010/07/300-followers-special-giveaway.html
Great grey franken!!! And I love your challenge. I wanted to participate, but I'm on a vacation and I don't have any grey polishes with me. I also don't have any white polishes with me, to franken a grey one. :( Well, I can't wait to see the manicure other people created for this challenge!
ReplyDeleteDamn I want to make this color now!!
ReplyDeleteI'll be using lippmann's waking up in vegas as my grey lol.
Oyku- Thanks! I'm not sure if it has a blue tint to it or not... that might just be your computer screen (since they are just composed of red, green, and blue dots anyways). I used a true black and a true white polish to create this color :)
ReplyDeleteMaestra- Well maybe you will be able to join next week! Have a great vacation! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Milan and Vanaily- Gray is probably the easiest color to franken! LOL! It's just black and white. Don't have to worry about hues, etc... Isn't "Waking Up In Vegas" a kind of beige? Oh well! Whatever works for you! :)
ReplyDeleteSo simple yet so awesome! I love that photoshopped label too! LOL
ReplyDeleteawesome! A totally wearable franken =)
ReplyDeleteWoah! That's an awesome color.OPI should totally buy that from you.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really cool franken! I'm the total opposite. I have grey polish but no black or white, which you can't really franken :( so I just bought black and white polish pens to participate in this weeks challenge. I'm excited!! Looking forward to seeing your entry.
ReplyDeletelove it

Cool franken -- love the photoshopped image!
ReplyDeleteHaha genius! I remember I used to mix my own varnish colours when I was in High School. There wasn't much selections or money of colours back in the days (okay i'm not that old) other than the halloween colours by Wet n Wild.
ReplyDeleteThat franken turned out GREAT!!! I hope OPI doesn't hunt you down. JK!
ReplyDeleteNice! I didn't have a grey polish either.
ReplyDeleteBeige? It's more grey? LOL! I can see how you may say it's beige.. maybe a touch? But it always looked more on the grey side lol
ReplyDeletePretty grey!
ReplyDeleteThis color is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love it!
Have you seen the challenge entry post on my blog? My two stamping colors were made the same way =) I took two bottles, one black and one white, and poured from one into the other till I received one dark and one light gray. But I realized that you can't achieve a natural gray this way, it takes a blue-ish tone. China Glaze Recycle looks warm compared to this type of gray, I think it might be because of the pigments in black...
ReplyDeleteGreat job, btw! =)
I love this franken. I was going to make one too as did not think I had a grey. But luckily I found mine, lurking in my cheap polish basket. I used collection 2000 Wham, a lovely cement grey like your franken.
ReplyDeleteYou're a frankening, photo-shopping, polish-naming GENIUS! You made a basic gray FUN! Oh, and p.s. that's probably why you didn't have a gray because it's basic and you're anything but!!! Have an awesome weekend...
ReplyDeleteLOVE this franken!! Now I have a very strong desire to get a light grey! lol I have only one grey polish, it's a Sally Hansen called Gunmetal.
ReplyDeleteOMG I totally forgot you extended this challenge for an extra day!!! I am SO going to try and sqeak in! :)
Love this color! Totally amazing! How much black to white did you use? I am obsessed with grey. Its kinda scary!
