Essie "Pretty Edgy"
What It Is
A green creme polish. This is from Essie's Summer 2010 collection.Application
Shown is 3 coats of "Pretty Edgy". I found it to go on quite smoothly. I might have been able to stop at 2 coats if I remembered to wrap my tips at the 2nd coat AND if I hadn't dragged my brush and created a bald spot on a couple nails. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized the polish did not bubble. However, I tried a new top coat (OPI RapiDry Top Coat) which must be getting dried out (I've had it awhile!) because it left bubbles everywhere! Aghhh!Random
I chipped a corner of my index finger... Boo-hoo, I know. There was NO WAY I was cutting them all down again so I opted on rounding all of my nails. To my surprise, I kind of like it! I think it complements the shape of my fingertips. My plan for this winter is to keep my nails short & round so they don't dry out so much and break! Also, I got a tripod! Yay! So I'm going to be taking more photos with my DSLR. I even figured out how to set a custom white balance so I won't look like a zombie anymore :) Have you noticed? I used my D90 for these photos...
I've been trying to improve the aesthetics of my blog... to make it more visually interesting. For example: better quality photographs, colorful backgrounds for my swatches, text boxes (such as this dark gray one), and archiTEXTural columns. Do you like my play on words there? :) Anyways... Since I'm an html novice, I'm not sure if I'm even doing it right. I see everything just fine on my computers but I want to make sure you all are seeing everything okay. Let me know if anything looks out of the ordinary! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch:) |
This week flew by! TGIF! I think I'll go polish shopping tomorrow!
I think your blog looks great. And, yes, I noticed the columns. Your nails look good short! Such a pretty green. I was under the assumption that Pretty Edgy was a jelly. Thanks for setting me straight.
ReplyDeleteMegan- Oh wonderful! [Sigh of relief] :) Thanks for commenting on my nails! I think I like them better short. I was looking back at posts with my long nails and they just don't look like "me", you know? I think I was blinded by the fact that they just kept growing without breaking! I didn't want to stop! LOL P.S. I suppose "Pretty Edgy" is jelly-like if you don't put enough coats on... 3 coats is definitely opaque though!
ReplyDeletei love your blog, i think it's one of the most stylish ones out there :) i love your nails any length, they look awesome short! i know exactly the allure that long nails have though, it's just like mind-boggling that they keep growing! but i feel more "me" with short nails too.
ReplyDeleteThis polish is a BOMB! Wish I could get my paws on it *drools*
ReplyDeleteI love it on short nails, I think it looks it's best that way.
And everything is alright with the design, I have no problems with anything (using FF). Annnd I dig the bicolumnal style! :)
Pretty! I miss your reflection pics though :(
ReplyDeleteEverything on your blog looks great to me!
ReplyDeleteI really like that Pretty Edgy is a creme...it makes it more unique, I think. It looks so smooth and not crazy, even thought it's what some would consider a "funky" color. And I like your nails rounded, too!
Everything looks good on my computer :)
ReplyDeleteI like the shape of your nails! It looks really great.
Love this color on you! And the round shorties look great - I love nubbins for winter, they're so much cuter for dark vampy colors than long nails are
ReplyDeleteKellie- Awww thank you so much :) I feel like I'm always trying to make it look better! (I look to Lacquerized for inspiration because her blog is so amazingly designed! Doesn't hurt that she's a web designer!) Anyways, everytime I check your posts I think "Gosh her round nails are so cute!" but I never had the courage to chop off mine and file the corners... until I broke one. It was the perfect opportunity to try it out! And I love it! Thanks for the inspiration, Kellie!
ReplyDeleteDaria- Yes it is! My boyfriend bought it for me on ebay cuz foolish me passed on it the last time I saw it in the store! Thanks for commenting! Glad you like the columns! I do too!
LaMaraVilla- :( Me too! But it just doesn't have the same effect with short nails!
Aurora's Nails- It's such a fun color! I've been wearing it for 3 days now... and OPI RapiDry is doing amazing! No chips yet! Just a little tip wear (from typing probably)... Thanks for stopping by!
Silva- Thanks for letting me know :) Glad you like the shape of my nails!
Ariana- Thanks! I think I'll be keeping them short for a while! :) Red looks good on shorties too!
wow this looks awesome on you...
ReplyDeletemy only tip for your blog is to make pictures clickable. i like to be able to see polish large and in mah face!
I always thought your nails were beyond improvement, this pic proves me wrong, they are even more lovely this length and as always the photos are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI really love this color on you!
ReplyDeleteAnd the layout of your blogpost looks very good, great job!:)
Grace- Thanks! :) Currently, I resize my photos so they fit perfectly into my blog post (7 x 5.25 @ 72dpi). If they were clickable, they would not be any larger because they are shown at their maximum size. Also, I have all of my images stored in a Photobucket account (because quality is better than blogger's image management). I think if it was clickable, it'd take you to my Photobucket Album, which would be a pain. Those pages seem to load really slow... So I just embed all of my pictures :)
ReplyDeleteto me, nothing looks off. I can see what you're intending to do, and it works great =)
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with Pretty Edgy, combined with your nail shape! honestly, rounded tips suit you as well as square tips! <3 and round tips can take pressure much better => less breaks! =)
Debbie- Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!:) I'm loving my nails this length and I love using my DSLR for photographing my nails! It's so fun!
ReplyDeleteI don't like the columns, but other than that - your blog looks great. It always did. =)
ReplyDeleteLovely shade, too!
I love the new nail shape! It's so much easier to pull off funky colors like this with short, round nails.
ReplyDeleteI do see the columns of text, but... I liked it better the old way. I'm sorry! It's just kind of hard to read now.
I love your nails this length, and your blog looks great :) I wore this colour the other night to my in-laws, and my pop-in-law was like, "I can't believe you're wearing GREEN on your nails!!" So, I replied, "Yeah - pretty edgy, right?" and laughed my head off. Nobody else got it, of course. :) How geeky is that?!
ReplyDeletexo, stalkthepostman
Hmmm, a little too green for me, thanks for the swatches though ! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your nails that way, actually, I even prefer them like that! Love that color too, it's been in stash for months now and I still haven't tried it out... shame on me, because it's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAnd you know what ? My OPI rapidry left bubbles on me too! So now I use China Glaze Fast forward which is much better (though the smell is pretty strong)
Anyway!
Nice blog by the way.
See you !
Trincess- Great! Seems like the majority of viewers like the columns, etc! I'm really enjoying my round nails! They are "cute" :) And they can pull off the crazy colors, like Grace mentioned!
ReplyDeletextinaaj- Thank you! :)
Nihrida- Thank you! I'm just trying to keep it interesting! A little change is good every now and then... LOL I'm one of those people that likes to rearrange my room every few months... I hope everything is still readable!
Grace- Are the columns lined up side-by-side like they should be? When people say it is "hard to read", I am trying to understand why...? Glad you like my new nails! :)
Stalkthepostman- Oh thank you! LOL It's funny when we start to speak in polish names... as if everyone would know what we are talking about!
Anonymous- I go through phases and right now I'm in a green phase! I love it! :)
The Biche- Thanks so much! I'm definitely getting used to them being short. SOooo much easier to take my contacts out! LOL... Yes, Pretty Edgy is a great green! It would be perfect for the holidays too! Throw some glitter on top and you are good-to-go! Too bad about RapiDry. I've had no chips though so at least it is doing its job:) Definitely going to try to find a bottle of CG Fast Forward this weekend since I've heard so much about it! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAre you not doing your weekly challenges anymore?
ReplyDeleteI think your blog always looked nice, but with those little changes I think it looks indeed more interesting! I noticed the different background colours for your swatches, I like. I'm not a big fan of columns, but variation is a good thing :)
ReplyDeleteAnd that is a fabulous nail polish!
Your blogs lovely as it is c:
ReplyDeleteThe colors lovely. Does old topcoats make your mani bubbly?
I had bubbles in the past because of this one topcoat I had, when I switched there was no bubbles in sight.
Is there any way of fixing it?
I love your rounded nails sissy!
ReplyDeleteYummmm! I need to have this color! You have beautiful photos and nails!
ReplyDeleteI noticed the "archiTEXTural" columns too! ^^ They look great! And the new nail shape looks really lovely on you. I'm glad you didn't have to cut them all down. Chips and breaks are evil, aren't they? >:(
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Pretty Edgy is awesome. Reminds me of grass. Fresh cut grass - a good thing!
ReplyDeleteAlso, just want to say that I think you're blog is already visually interesting and your photographs are some of the best. One of those blogs that I get excited to see a post from. It's professional and simple (and by simple, I mean doesn't take eight years to download and doesn't visually distract from the main focus) yet fun! Keep up the good work :)
I have never considered your blog's layout boring! I have seen many of your changes, I like the before, during, and after!
ReplyDeletevery very pretty....I am green with envy.....hehehe I have to have one for myself.....
ReplyDeleteYour blog has always look nice to me....Informative too....But go on reinvent and make it better.....If it will make you happier and "hippier" in anyway I am just happy to read your posts.
Alice- As of now, no :( They are just so much work... It's hard enough for me to post regularly. Sorry! I've just lost my motivation for the challenges.
ReplyDeleteAmyGrace- Thank you! :)
AnnKiins- I do think old, thick topcoats tend to bubble. I'm not sure if thinners would help them out but it can't hurt to try!
mlk- Thanks Miece!
JQ- Aww thanks!
Shinkirou93- Yes, they are evil! And quite frequent this time of the year. That's why I'm mentally preparing myself by saying I'm keeping them short this winter ;) If they grow, great! If they break, well, that's expected.
Amanda- Thanks so much! I definitely try to keep it fun and easy to read! I don't like navigating my way through blogs with lots of advertising... i think it is distracting and chaotic! I'd rather my blog be more like a book than a magazine crammed with ads! :)
jbrobeck- Glad you like my changes! Unfortunately, I'm a perfectionist and think there is always room for improvement.. but in the end it is good because it pushes me to challenge myself and learn new things :)
Cheanne- :) Thanks! The next thing I need to work on is posting more! I've got soooo much polish I've never swatched! I just need to find some time to do it!!
I really love that nail length and shape on you. Seeing the Party Hearty on, too, looks lovely with your nails. They look much more manicured with them shorter. Very elegant, and probably a lot easier to fiddle with the little buttons on your camera!
