Rest in peace, my Preciousssss

OPI Designer Series 30 comments

Have I done something to make the polish fairies angry with me?? The other day, I broke a nail tip completely off so I had to cut down ALL of my nails... and today... I tipped over a stack of polish boxes and killed my bottle of OPI DS Glamour! Ohhhh the pain!
Good thing I have a back-up bottle! It still doesn't make me feel any better about basically throwing away a brand new bottle of discontinued, highly sought-after, designer series OPI! I'm so mad at myself right now... My punishment? Cleaning holographic blue polish off of the survivors from that box.

OPI DS Reflection

OPI DS "Reflection" - 2 Coats
It was pretty much unanimous that everyone preferred my Canon (point-and-shoot) photographs compared to my Nikon D90 (DSLR)... but I HAD to use the D90 for "Reflection". Reds are so hard to accurately capture. The Canon really saturated the color of this polish. It looked bright, neon magenta! Is was totally off! So here is "Reflection" seen through the Nikon:
Don't mind my corpsey complexion. We will just pretend that I intended on my hands looking this way in the spirit of Halloween! ;) I plan on experimenting more with my white balance so I can get a more natural color in my hands!

Those flakes are holographic! (I know, you can't tell. Use your imagination!)
Thanks for stopping by :)

OPI DS Extravagance

OPI Designer Series 30 comments

OPI DS "Extravagance"

I'm here! I chose this manicure as my "comeback" because it is cheerful, bright, girly, sparkly, and everything in between!

"Extravagance" (as I'm sure many of you know) is an OPI Designer Series shade. What classifies an OPI polish as "Designer Series"? I used to think all DS polishes were holographic but lately they've been just plain sparkly... not even cool sparkly like "Mad as a Hatter"... Just boring sparkly like "Mystery". How many more times should I use the word "sparkly"? :)

ANOTHER OBSERVATION: The old, old DS polishes had a holographic rainbow effect. The newer ones have only scattered holographic pieces :(

Since I'm on the topic of old DS polishes, "Extravagance" (I'd say) is the same exact color as DS "Exclusive" minus the awesome holo rainbow effect that I just noted. Maybe I should do a side-by-side comparison just to confirm...

Anyways... Here I applied 2 coats. This polish was amazingly easy to work with. Goes on smooth and removes just as well. The color is magenta and those tiny specs that you see are actually holographic bits! Here is a closer look. Keep in mind, it is waaaay prettier in real-life:

Below is a photo in the sunlight. You can see the holographic specs reflecting different colors (blue, red, etc) better than in the previous pictures.

Like it? I love it!

"Yay" for my 200th post! :)

OPI DS Glamour

OPI Designer Series 18 comments

It's another blue! This is OPI (Designer Series) Glamour. I told you it was a super holo! (Not as super as Nfu-Oh holographic polishes but at least OPI's goes on in 2 even coats and you can wear a top coat without it ruining the holo effect!)
It has been raining soooo much here. When the forecast finally called for sun, I was wasn't going to miss my chance to show you guys this polish! I wanted you to see the difference between "Fantasy" and "Glamour". Well, now you have :)

Oopsy. I did a bad thing. A really bad thing. I got careless...

I bought an extra bottle of "Glamour" the other day because I thought I could include it in a future giveaway. Well, I was in such a hurry to paint my nails before Glee a few nights ago that I grabbed the NEW bottle instead of my previously used bottle! Now I've got two opened bottles of "Glamour"!
My fing'ns and toes are extra sparkly at the moment. I've got my toenails painted with Rescue Beauty Lounge Frugalista! It's glitter galore!

[Below] Look at all of those holographic specs!

OPI DS Fantasy

OPI Designer Series 13 comments

OPI DS Fantasy
This is OPI's (Designer Series) "Fantasy". This polish reminds me a lot of DS "Glamour" but the blue is more saturated and it doesn't have that mega holographic effect. It is just as gorgeous though.

"Fantasy" is well pigmented. I only had to apply 2 coats to cover my nails! Some of you may do fine with one coat but I like to be on the safe side.

DS "Fantasy" is amazing. If you ever find it, you should get it! That's all... I'm out of words for today :)

OPI DS Glow

OPI Designer Series 4 comments

OPI Designer Series Glow
This is probably my least favorite OPI DS color that I own. Ewww. Gag. Am I being too harsh? Well, at this time of year anyway (late fall), it looks really awful on MY skin tone. I will try it again next summer... on my feet... when they are TAN!

HOWEVER, in the bottle it is beautiful! Very glittery, very sparkly! A metallic shade somewhere between copper and gold. Two coats is sufficient but the photo above is three.

And speaking of "glow"... I was driving a few mornings ago and noticed a huge, glowing spot in the sky. I thought to myself "OMG. Is that the sun!?"... I seriously had to think about it! I'd never seen it so red! I just HAD to take a picture! It's not a great picture by any means (I was driving for Heaven's sake!) but it does somewhat show the contrast of the sun on the dark morning sky. It was so much more impressive in person. Trust me.

Treasure & Konad M64

Konad Nail Art, OPI, OPI Designer Series 0 comments

OPI DS Treasure over OPI Brights Power & M64
So this is it. This is what I'm wearing for Halloween. No blood, no pumpkins, no ghosts, and no candy. Just good ol' purple (Violet Special Polish)and orange! I did contemplate stamping a lollipop from plate M14 but I decided to stop while it still looked good. I'm glad it is completed and all dry! Last night was truly a test of my patience. I put on a base coat, layered with Brights Power, then put on DS Treasure. I guess I didn't let it dry long enough (or there was just too much moisture in the air from all the rain we've been getting) because I smudged TWO fingers and had to redo them! I rarely smudge my polish so I was SO MAD. Then I went about my stamping business, sealed it with a topcoat, and started to pack up my Konad supplies. When I was all done, I looked down and to my disbelief, I had messed up another nail! I about lost it! I really wanted to cry but I regained my composure, got out all my stuff (AGAIN!) and completely redid my nail from the beginning. I'm happy to say they are all still intact this morning...

Beads & Bows

Konad Nail Art, OPI Designer Series 2 comments

OPI DS Elegance & Konad M59 and M62
Well, I'm not sure if those little dots are actually supposed to be beads but that's what I think of when I see them. "They" say that stamping the tips of your nails is harder than stamping the whole nail (because you have to get it lined up straight) but I didn't think it was too bad. I actually like stamping just the tips better. Sometimes when you are stamping a design on your whole nail, the natural curve of the nail makes it impossible to push the stamper all the way down. Or maybe that is just a trick I haven't learned yet... Another bummer to a full nail stamp is that the excess design can stamp all over your cuticles. It's not a big deal when working with white polish... but black? Black is a PAIN to get off! Here I used the Konad Special Polish in white and OPI Designer Series Elegance. The beads are from Konad image plate M62 and the bow is from M59. I wanted it to be fun and girly. I think I achieved that... But now I want to start doing more difficult designs... with lots of different stamped layers! This was a good beginners project. Next please.
