My Fancy New Camera

Here it is! The D90:
Nikon D90
I bought the kit which came with the lens below (18-105mm) but I ended up purchasing the 50mm f/1.8 lens (above) a few days later. I needed a larger aperture. It doesn't have zoom capabilities but that is fine with me. It is smaller, therefore lighter, and is the same lens that several other bloggers use for their photographs :)

This thing is long and heavy!:
Kit Lens
And here is the camera bag that is on its way as I type:
Jill-e Camera Bag
Doesn't look like a camera bag does it? It's actually cute! And not black! Yay!... It is a Jill-e bag. Check out the inside:
Inside of Bag
The last thing I got was an 8-point star filter for my lens. I'm still trying to figure out the best conditions in which to use it, but here is a fairly decent example of its effect:
Star Burst
Where there is a concentrated spot of light reflecting off an object, you get this cute starburst. Fun! (FYI: That is OPI's Mad As A Hatter)

And lastly, a fun picture (taken with the 50mm lens) of a camel limoge my Dad sent me. It's adorable and matches my room decor well. Underneath it you see some dinars! I asked him to bring me some Middle Eastern currency. It is so pretty. Colorful. One side is in English and the other a foreign language. I think my Dad said it cost $6 U.S. dollars to get these (1 1/2 dinars).
Camel
Such a long post! I guess I could have split it up but it is all "new camera" related. Hope you found it interesting:)

  1. Oh wow! Awesome. That is the kind of bag I need for my Canon. I hate carrying around that generic thing. LOL

  2. Lucky you! I also have a D90, but I only have a 18-200 lens, and I can't get close enough to my nails to use it for nail pics. So I'm totally drooling on a 60mm macro lens, I just need to flutter my eyelids in the months before my birthday, so maybe my husband will give in and buy me one. ;)

  3. I shoot (pro) with the D200, D300, D3x and I love the 50mm lens.....take it out of P mode and go fully manual...the bokeh you can get is awesome....when you can swing it, go for the 50mm 1.4 !!!

congrats on the camera! can't go wrong with Nikon!

  4. omg i am SO JEALOUS! like BEYOND WORDS!!!!!! can i ask you how much it cost? i have my old manual (well...not old old but like 10years old, nikon n60) but obviously i am looking to upgrade to a digital SLR not just for blogging but from a long love of photographhy (i studied it for a short while...sadly my declared english degree demanded attention and time beyond what i could devote to photography) but i'm really trying to get back into it!! i just don't feel as connected to photography with my dinky point and shoot (much as i like it for its portable nature)

OMG...i swear i just wrote a long boring essay. but yeah. hi :D

  6. Jealous! I want to buy a new camera (I told myself when I hit 500 blog followers or YT subscribers I would ... and that is approaching faster than I anticipated!) ... but honestly most of what you talk about above with the different lenses & etc is gibberish to me LOL. So I think I need to do some serious research before I actually make a decision what to buy.

  7. Great camera! You've already had perfect photos, and now they're going to be even better, if this is possible:)

  8. Love the camera AND the bag. Nice buys, well done :)

  9. I am jealous! Last time I had the pleasure of using one of these cameras was on loan from a job to take pictures at a concert I attended. (I had a very cool boss!)
The bag is cute! I think I'd rather have a backpack though...but this bag is tempting!
Love the sparkle it adds. Wow! Congrats!

  10. Gorgeous! I'm still kicking myself for not getting a Canon Rebel and getting my powershot instead, gah these take such perfect pictures! Enjoy your new toy and I look forward to all your new photography! *hint hint*

  12. Super cute bag!

My boss just recently went to Dubai, and she got me a camel jewel box that looks quite similar to yours.

I am in desperate need of a new camera.

    :o)

  13. Lucky girl! Now we can expect more beautiful photos. I don't belive that this is possible. :))

  14. L- I'm so excited to get the bag! I like that it is feminine. Some of those black camera bags are like suitcases! Not fun at all!

Nailinit- I've read some good things about the 18-200mm lens! I thought about getting it separately but I wanted the camera right away and didn't want to have to order the lens! I'd love to have the 60mm micro lens too! Maybe someday :) Hope you will receive it for your birthday!

Yardsticks4Lunatics- Oh I wanted to get the 50mm f/1.4 but I didn't know if I really NEEDED it bad enough to pay twice the $ for it... I think being in the photography field would be so fun and rewarding. I wish I had gone to school for it instead of graphic design :( At least I have the "design" background!

DailyPolish- I felt the same way about the point-and-shoot camera I had! I was always taking pictures of flowers and animals... now of my nephew, and I just really needed a better camera that gave me shooting options! The D90 kit (camera and that bulky lens) was $1200. The 50mm lens was only $135 and it is great! I splurged on a pretty bag but I got it on sale ($99)! Now I need a tripod and extra battery! The list is never-ending :) Hope you find your way back into photography!

    Jaljen- Thanks! :)

Colette- Haha. Believe me. It was mostly gibberish to me, as well. I had to do a lot of research to figure out what I needed too! Read online reviews, bought a book! I seriously think the best way to learn is by hands on experience. I've learned so much already just by actually HAVING my camera and different lens!

KONADomania- Aw thanks! I certainly hope they get better!

    Diva's Polish- Thank you :)

Elizabeth- Fun! It'd be so cool to take concert photos :) Yes, the backpack is probably more practical but I thought if the bag had to be big and bulky then it might as well be cute!

  15. Jessica- Thanks! You can still get the Rebel! It's nice to have 2 cameras. One for serious picture-taking and one to throw in your purse!

FitterTwit- Haha! Thanks :) I'm so happy about my camera! I've been wanting a DSLR for years and I finally have it!

    Laura- Thanks!

Tassa- I sure hope I can show you all some better pictures! Maybe not just nail photos, but of other things I enjoy photographing!

  16. Nice camera! Have fun using it. Cute bag too.

  17. I was just using a Nikon like that today at school and it was really amazing with just automatic settings. I can wait to get my new camera (probably Canon one) a few weeks from now.

  18. I love the new camera!! I am attempting to save up for one myself, but will take some time. The bag is beautiful and so feminine :)

  19. Velvet- Thank you! I sure will have fun :)

S- Oh nice! My mom has a Canon SLR but I prefer my Nikon!

Polish Hoochie- It took me a few months of serious saving to get this! I had to hold myself back from buying too much nail polish (notice how I said "too much" and not "any" LOL) and I didn't even buy any Konad supplies during the last days of the discount code! You will love your camera when you get it! :) And don't forget about a Jill-e bag! They've got multiple colors and sizes!

  20. Nice camera, cute star effect and the bag is really nice! The camel is cute too! :)

  21. Congrats on the camera. Have a Canon myself and will pass on the advice I was given by a pro regarding lenses - he said whether Nikon or Canon the 50mm f1.8 is a sweet lens and forces you to use your legs as a zoom, as its a prime lens (no zoom)and its the ideal first lens, he actually advised me to buy the camera body, forget the kit lens and go straight for the 50mm. Have a couple more lenses now one of which cost £££ but my fifty is still my fave! I love your camera bag, have a very macho backpack but as pay off at least I can convince hubby to carry it, not so sure he'd be keen to do the same with a lovely lemon one!

  23. That's an awesome camera! I can't tell you how jealous I am! I take all my photos with one of those digital cameras, and my photos don't have cool 8 point stars! :D =drools over your camera=

  24. Congratulations on the camera! I absolutely love the picture of MAAMH and how the sparkles came across.
