Blurple

There is a word that I keep seeing. Everyone is using it, with the exception of me. I don't like it.

BLURPLE. Is that even legit?
Blue + Purple = Blurple. Yes, I understand how it came to be.

But what ever happened to the word which "blurple" replaced? The one that defined the "I"? You know, from that silly little acronym for the colors of the rainbow!? Roy G Biv... It's all coming back now, isn't it?

Blurple. It used to be called "Indigo". What ever happened to that?

  1. I totally agree - I think 'blurple' is a gross word, it sounds like something that happens after you've been sick and there's nothing left to chuck up.

  2. Haha! Yah it does... maybe because it sounds like "burp"? :)

  3. LOL, thanks for this clear-up! The reason I've used the word "blurple" is firstly that English is my second language and secondly that I'm not really good at naming colors at all. I'll definitely start using "indigo" from now on, though. :)

  4. I guess I never took that into account! I hope I don't offend anyone! :) I just think "indigo" is so under-appreciated!

  5. I've always thought that when people use the word "blurple" they refer to the purplish color as not being a pure-beauty as indigo. It's a great thing you bring this up! If people do use it instead of indigo it should be clear to everyone.

  6. Doo- I don't think there is just one "pure" shade/hue of indigo... Just like there are many versions of orange, green, blue, and purple. I believe there are many versions of indigo. There's a fine line, isn't there? And it is kind of hard to define! :)

  7. Thanks Miss Merx! Haha, Rainbow Bright! I think I had a Rainbow Bright doll with pink hair...

  8. Lol...Thanks for the reminder. I never use the word,"blurple" though. It just seems so silly and unintelligent sounding.

  9. This is like borderline philosophical... LOL!

  10. Hmmm... doesn't "blurple" refer to the purple which doesn't show on camera? Meaning that it's purple in real life, but appears blue on pictures, kind of "fake blue". Indigo would imply the colour is indigo indeed.

  11. Velvet- I agree. I'm just not a fan of "blurple". I kind of reminds me of Spanglish (where you add an "o" to the end of everything, ex. chair-o).

FitterTwit- Lol. I just couldn't take that word any longer! It was eating at me!

HeavenNRJ- People definitely use "blurple" to describe the color. That's why I posted this... because I'm just confused as why they don't use "indigo" instead.

  12. I don't speak english as a native language, and I just learned that indigo represented "blurple"! although I'm using it, I don't like that word, either! thanks for teaching me something new and important! *hugs*
(I thought indigo was synonym for "navy")

  13. Trincess- Yes, I stated earlier that I didn't take into account that some people might not know the english word for that color! I hope I didn't offend anyone :) Glad I could help you out! We learn something new each day. That always amazes me :)

  15. Yes! A thousand times yes! Please, everybody, let's all say indigo together . . . not blurple.

  16. I agree "Blurple" is CUTE and all, but lets bring back Indigo, Indigo is "CHIC"!

  17. *raises hand* I'm with you! I can't stand "blurple." I'm generally a fan of portmanteau words, but not in place of a perfectly good word that already exists!

  18. I never liked that word either. It sounds like so many stupid chat speak words. I especially hate when people use chat speak terms in real life, but that's another story!

  19. Hahaha I almost made a blog post about this today. I may, anyway, because apparently we've forgotten WHOLE COLORS. You'd think in a cosmetics-related theme, where color is king, we'd remember what the heck Indigo was. >:[
