I thought my loyalty to OPI was strong... strong enough to turn down amazing colors created by other brands even though I knew OPI would never create them for me. I was wrong.
It began with Nfu Ohs... I allowed myself to get them because they were "special". All those flakes! I had to have some! I went nuts. Flakes, cremes, shimmers, glitters! I didn't hold back.
Then, I started seeing the new Essie collection popping up all over blogs. "Ooooohhhwha! I want that" [in a childlike, whiney voice].... I WANT THAT MINT CANDY APPLE! I felt like a little mosquito that couldn't stay away from the light... ZAP! They got me.
So while I was in Trade Secret, I stopped by the Essie shelf. They were "Buy 2 Get 1 Free"... I had to have it! Here it is: Perfection...
Look what I found when I got home: Perfection... in a different bottle. Hmmm? But this one was called #172.
I put them next to each other to compare...
They are virtually the same!!!! Too similar to need both! Well crap. I could have spent that money on a new bottle of OPI.
I didn't need "Mint Candy Apple" or the other 2 Essie polishes I bought in order to get it for free. I could be holding OPI Onyx right now (instead of Essie Licorice)! OPI Plugged In Plum could be part of my purple collection (instead of Essie Sexy Divide)!
I was weak yesterday. Very weak.
And below is proof that I didn't need "Mint Candy Apple". Two fingers are painted with "Mint Candy Apple" and two with #172.
And another picture with a little different lighting to see if that changes the appearance of the colors...
Can you tell which is which? I'm not even going to tell you because it doesn't matter. All that matters is that they look the same and no one needs both.

:( I can see a slight difference. But I'm very partial to Essie. They are both gorgeous though, and I love Nfu Oh flakies. Their other color types give me issues though. I love your blog, and the name gives me the giggles everytime I check your page
Yes, there is a tiny color difference when they are in the bottles.
BUT when on the nail, they are the same. In both of the photos of my hand, the 2 left fingers are Essie & the 2 right are Nfu oh.
Thanks for taking time to read my blog and post comments! Glad you like it!
I totally understand, I used to be big into OPI too, but now I am really embracing other brands!
wow, they ARE identical. I didn't realize there was a dupe for Mint Candy Apple! But, Mint Candy Apple is a WAY cuter name Onyx :)
woops, I mean that Mint Candy Apple is a way cuter name than "172"! (that's what I get for watching tv while blog commenting! my brain is too tired to multitask).
Woooww Essie is very pretty!!
Yes, it (Mint Candy Apple AND #172) is a gorgeous color!
hahahaha this one cracked me up... not that you have 2 identical colors and wasted a little money, but everything you wrote was making me laugh :) the mosquito part was hilarious!
I don't have either. Essie would be much cheaper. I have to buy that one. It's amazing how much alike they are.
